Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a three-dimensional imaging modality that uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam and flat-panel detector to acquire volumetric images. In radiation therapy, CBCT is integrated with linear accelerators to provide on-table imaging for patient setup verification and target localization. CBCT images are compared with planning CT scans to detect positioning errors, anatomical changes, or organ motion. While offering inferior soft tissue contrast compared to diagnostic CT, CBCT provides adequate image quality for most positioning applications with lower radiation dose and faster acquisition times.
