Maximum Standardized Uptake Value (SUVmax) represents the pixel with the highest radiotracer uptake within a defined region of interest on positron emission tomography (PET) scans. This quantitative measurement helps oncologic radiologists assess tumor metabolism, stage cancer, monitor treatment response, and detect recurrence. SUVmax values are normalized for patient weight and injected dose, making them comparable across different patients and time points. Higher SUVmax values typically indicate more aggressive tumors or active disease, though interpretation must consider the specific radiotracer used and clinical context.
