Tissue transfer technique using adjacent tissue that remains connected to its original blood supply.
Full Definition
A reconstructive surgical technique where tissue is moved from a donor site to cover a defect while maintaining its connection to the original vascular pedicle. Pedicled flaps are commonly used in oncologic reconstruction to close defects after tumor resection while preserving reliable blood flow. Unlike free flaps, pedicled flaps do not require microvascular anastomosis, making them suitable for patients who cannot tolerate longer procedures or have compromised vascular status.
