Peripheral Ameloblastoma
A rare extraosseous variant of ameloblastoma arising in the oral soft tissues, particularly the gingiva, without involvement of the underlying bone.

Peripheral ameloblastoma accounts for a small fraction of all ameloblastomas and is histologically identical to its intraosseous counterpart but is confined to the gingival or alveolar mucosal soft tissue. Because it does not invade bone, its behaviour is far less aggressive and recurrence rates after conservative excision are low. Editors must distinguish it clearly from intraosseous (central) ameloblastoma in case reports and review articles, as management and prognosis differ substantially. Confusion with reactive gingival lesions or peripheral odontogenic fibroma should also be flagged.

Usage note: Always qualify 'ameloblastoma' with the appropriate anatomical variant (central/peripheral/unicystic) to avoid ambiguity. 'Extraosseous' and 'peripheral' are synonymous in this context.
