Masticatory space infections represent potentially life-threatening complications of dental infections that spread beyond the alveolar process into the deep fascial spaces including the masseteric, pterygomandibular, superficial and deep temporal, and infratemporal spaces. These infections are characterized by severe trismus, facial asymmetry, and systemic toxicity. Prompt recognition and aggressive management with surgical drainage and broad-spectrum antibiotics are essential to prevent spread to the parapharyngeal space and subsequent airway compromise.
