A pathological communication between the oral cavity and maxillary sinus that commonly occurs as a complication of maxillary posterior tooth extraction, particularly molars with roots extending into the sinus. Small communications may heal spontaneously, while larger defects require surgical closure to prevent chronic sinusitis, food impaction, and fluid passage between cavities. Treatment options include primary closure, buccal fat pad grafts, or palatal flaps.
