panfacial fracture

Complex facial trauma involving simultaneous fractures of the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the facial skeleton.

Full Definition

A panfacial fracture represents the most severe form of facial trauma, characterized by fractures affecting all three anatomical thirds of the face: frontal/frontonasal region, midface, and mandible. These injuries typically result from high-energy trauma such as motor vehicle accidents or industrial accidents. Management requires staged surgical reconstruction to restore facial height, width, and projection while addressing functional deficits in vision, breathing, and mastication.

Usage

Usage note: Hyphenate as compound modifier: 'panfacial-fracture patient'.
