Antrostomy is a surgical procedure that involves creating an artificial opening into the maxillary sinus (antrum) through either the oral cavity or nasal passage. In oral surgery, this procedure is typically performed to establish drainage for chronic maxillary sinusitis, remove foreign bodies, or provide surgical access for other procedures. The most common approach in oral surgery is through the canine fossa, creating a window that can be maintained with or without a drain. Post-operative care includes saline irrigation and monitoring for healing.
