Full Definition
Buccal exostosis is a benign, localized overgrowth of cortical bone that occurs on the facial aspect of the alveolar process, most commonly in the premolar and molar regions of both jaws. These bony prominences are usually bilateral, asymptomatic, and covered by normal mucosa. While generally requiring no treatment, they may interfere with prosthetic fabrication or oral hygiene, necessitating surgical removal through alveoloplasty.

Usage note: Plural form is 'exostoses'; distinguish from pathological bone growth.
