Full Definition

A surgical procedure involving the removal or modification of a frenum, the small fold of tissue that connects the lips or tongue to the gums or floor of the mouth. The procedure is commonly performed to correct tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) in infants or to address aesthetic and functional concerns with lip attachment. Frenectomies can be performed with traditional surgical instruments or laser technology.
