Full Definition
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone cancer, typically arising in the metaphyses of long bones during periods of rapid bone growth. It most frequently affects the distal femur, proximal tibia, and proximal humerus. The tumor produces osteoid matrix and has a propensity for pulmonary metastasis. Treatment typically involves neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by limb-salvage surgery or amputation, then adjuvant chemotherapy.
