Pulmonary metastasectomy is the surgical resection of metastatic tumor deposits in the lungs, commonly performed for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas that have spread to the pulmonary system. This procedure may be curative in selected patients with limited pulmonary disease, good performance status, and controlled primary tumor. The lungs are the most common site of metastasis for many sarcomas, particularly osteosarcoma. Surgical approach may include wedge resection, segmentectomy, or lobectomy, depending on the number, size, and location of metastases.
