AAROM

Also written as: AAROM — Active Assisted Range of Motion

Joint movement combining patient effort with external assistance to complete the full range of motion.

Full Definition

Active Assisted Range of Motion is a therapeutic technique where the patient initiates and performs as much joint movement as possible using their own muscle strength, while a therapist or mechanical device provides assistance to complete the full available range of motion. AAROM bridges the gap between passive and active movement, allowing patients to gradually regain strength and confidence in their movement patterns while ensuring joints maintain their full mobility.

Usage

Usage note: Always capitalize when used as an acronym; hyphenate when spelled out as active-assisted.
