Tissue Approximation refers to the surgical principle and technique of bringing the edges of divided tissues into close contact to promote optimal healing with minimal scarring. This concept applies to various tissue types including skin, fascia, muscle, and tendon repair. Proper tissue approximation requires adequate debridement of non-viable tissue, appropriate suturing techniques, and consideration of tissue tension to avoid compromising blood supply. The quality of tissue approximation significantly impacts healing time, functional outcomes, and cosmetic results. In orthopedic surgery, tissue approximation is particularly important in soft tissue repairs, arthroscopic procedures, and wound closure.
