Capsular laxity refers to abnormal looseness or stretching of the fibrous joint capsule that surrounds synovial joints. In sports medicine, this condition can be congenital or acquired through repetitive stress or trauma. Athletes with capsular laxity may experience joint instability, increased range of motion beyond normal limits, and higher susceptibility to dislocations or subluxations.
