The load and shift test is a clinical examination technique used to evaluate glenohumeral joint stability, particularly for detecting anterior and posterior instability. The test involves applying axial compression (load) to center the humeral head in the glenoid, followed by anterior and posterior translation (shift) to assess for abnormal movement or apprehension. This test is considered more sensitive than the apprehension test for subtle instability and is graded based on the degree of humeral head translation.

Usage note: Results are typically graded I-III based on degree of humeral head translation; perform bilaterally for comparison.
