The medial plateau bears approximately 70% of the axial load across the knee, making anatomical reduction crucial for optimal outcomes. Associated injuries may include meniscal tears, ligamentous disruption, and compartment syndrome. Clinical presentation includes knee pain, swelling, hemarthrosis, and inability to bear weight. CT scanning is essential for surgical planning to assess fracture pattern, depression, and comminution.
