A grading system for thoracolumbar burst fractures based on vertebral body comminution and deformity.

The Load-Sharing Classification is a standardized system developed by McCormack et al. for evaluating thoracolumbar burst fractures and predicting the success of posterior instrumentation alone. The system assigns points based on vertebral body comminution, fragment apposition, and kyphotic correction, with scores ranging from 3 to 9 points. Higher scores indicate greater anterior column destruction and typically require anterior column support in addition to posterior stabilization for optimal outcomes.
