SLAP tear

Superior labrum anterior to posterior tear, an injury to the cartilaginous ring around the shoulder socket.
Full Definition
A SLAP tear involves damage to the superior (top) portion of the labrum, extending from anterior (front) to posterior (back). This injury commonly affects the attachment point of the biceps tendon and can result from repetitive overhead activities or acute trauma. SLAP tears are particularly prevalent in throwing athletes and can cause significant shoulder pain and instability, often requiring arthroscopic surgical repair.
Usage
Usage note: Always capitalize SLAP; distinguish from Bankart lesions which affect the anterior-inferior labrum.
