Intrinsic posting involves modifying the thickness or angle of the orthotic shell during fabrication so that the corrective wedge is integral to the device. This approach distributes corrective forces more evenly across the shell and reduces overall device bulk. It is technically more demanding than extrinsic posting and generally cannot be revised without remaking the orthosis. In editorial review of orthotics documentation, this term must not be conflated with extrinsic posting, as the fabrication pathway, material requirements, and clinical indications differ. It appears frequently in laboratory prescriptions and peer-reviewed clinical research.
