Orthotic dispensing refers to the structured clinical encounter at which a fabricated or prefabricated orthosis is delivered to the patient, fitted and adjusted, and the patient is educated in its donning, doffing, wear schedule, and care. It is a regulated activity in many jurisdictions and is documented in clinical records. In editorial contexts, the term appears in service delivery guidelines, NHS frameworks, and clinical audit reports. Editors must not use 'dispensing' and 'prescribing' interchangeably; prescribing precedes dispensing in the clinical pathway.
