Derotation Strap

A strap incorporated into an orthosis that applies a rotational corrective force to address tibial or femoral torsion.

Full Definition

A derotation strap is an orthotic component that exerts a controlled torque across a joint segment to counteract abnormal internal or external rotation of the tibia or femur. It is commonly incorporated into KAFOs and paediatric AFOs for conditions such as tibial torsion or in-toeing gait. In editorial contexts, 'derotation' is the accepted one-word spelling; 'de-rotation' with a hyphen is a common error that copy editors should flag. The mechanism's effect is documented in gait analysis reports and must be described accurately in prior authorisation submissions.
