Full Definition
The COMFORT-B scale is a validated behavioral observation tool used to assess pain and distress in critically ill or sedated pediatric patients. It evaluates six behavioral indicators: alertness, calmness/agitation, respiratory response, physical movement, blood pressure, and heart rate. Each parameter is scored from 1-5, with total scores ranging from 6-30. Scores of 11-16 indicate adequate sedation, while scores above 17 suggest inadequate analgesia or sedation requiring intervention.
