The Post Anesthetic Discharge Scoring System (PADSS) is a validated scoring tool designed to objectively assess when patients are safe for discharge from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or ambulatory surgery center. The system evaluates five criteria: vital signs, activity level, nausea/vomiting, pain, and surgical bleeding. Each category is scored from 0-2, with a minimum total score of 9 typically required for discharge. In pediatric anesthesia, modified versions often include additional age-appropriate criteria such as feeding tolerance and parental comfort level.
