Full Definition

Evidence-based clinical algorithms developed by the American Heart Association for managing critically ill pediatric patients, including cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia, and respiratory emergencies. These protocols incorporate pediatric-specific considerations such as age-based drug dosing, equipment sizing, defibrillation energy levels, and recognition that respiratory causes are more common than primary cardiac causes in pediatric arrests. PALS algorithms are essential knowledge for pediatric anesthesiologists managing perioperative emergencies and complications.
