Modified version of the adult sleep apnea screening tool adapted for identifying pediatric obstructive sleep apnea risk.
Full Definition
STOP-Bang pediatric is an adaptation of the adult obstructive sleep apnea screening questionnaire modified for use in children. The pediatric version considers factors such as snoring, observed apneas, behavioral problems, body mass index percentile, age, neck circumference, and gender. Unlike the adult version, pediatric OSA often occurs in normal-weight children and is frequently associated with adenotonsillar hypertrophy. Positive screening results indicate increased perioperative risk requiring modified anesthetic management, including careful airway assessment and postoperative monitoring protocols.
Usage
Usage note: Distinguish from adult STOP-Bang scoring as pediatric criteria and cutoff values differ.
