Full Definition
Endocardial fibroelastosis (EFE) is a condition characterized by abnormal thickening of the endocardium due to proliferation of fibrous and elastic tissue. In pediatric cardiology, EFE is commonly associated with left heart obstructive lesions and hypoplastic left heart complex. The thickened endocardium appears as increased echogenicity on echocardiography and may contribute to impaired ventricular function. EFE can be primary or secondary to other cardiac conditions.
