Full Definition
The Senning operation is an atrial switch procedure developed by Åke Senning for correction of transposition of the great arteries. Unlike the Mustard procedure which uses patch material, the Senning operation creates venous pathways using the patient's own atrial tissue and atrial septum. While largely superseded by the arterial switch operation, the Senning procedure may still be considered in specific anatomical situations or as a component of double switch operations.
