A systemic right ventricle refers to the morphologic right ventricle that serves as the systemic pumping chamber, most commonly seen after atrial switch operations (Mustard or Senning) for transposition of the great arteries. In this configuration, the right ventricle pumps blood to the body while the left ventricle pumps to the lungs. Long-term concerns include progressive right ventricular dysfunction, tricuspid regurgitation, and arrhythmias, as the right ventricle was not designed for systemic pressures.
