Systemic ventricular dysfunction refers to the deterioration of contractile function in the ventricle responsible for systemic circulation. In patients with congenital heart disease, this may involve the anatomical left ventricle in normal hearts or the right ventricle in cases where it serves as the systemic ventricle (such as after atrial switch operations or in congenitally corrected transposition). The condition is assessed through echocardiographic parameters and can significantly impact long-term prognosis and quality of life.
