An indwelling catheter inserted into an artery, most commonly the radial, femoral, or umbilical artery in neonates, connected to a pressure transducer for real-time blood pressure monitoring. In pediatric critical care, arterial lines enable continuous hemodynamic monitoring, frequent blood gas analysis, and blood sampling without repeated needle sticks. Placement requires sterile technique, and ongoing care includes pressure monitoring, line flushing, and assessment for complications like thrombosis or infection.
