A therapeutic intervention aimed at reducing intraluminal pressure and volume within the gastrointestinal tract by removing accumulated gas, fluid, and debris. In pediatric patients, bowel decompression may be achieved through nasogastric suction, rectal tubes, or surgical intervention depending on the level and cause of obstruction. The procedure helps alleviate symptoms, prevents complications such as perforation, and may facilitate resolution of functional or mechanical obstructions.
