Tubular dysfunction refers to defective renal tubular transport processes that can affect sodium, potassium, phosphate, glucose, amino acids, or other substances normally reabsorbed or secreted by tubular cells. In pediatric nephrology, this often manifests as isolated defects like renal tubular acidosis or complex syndromes like Fanconi syndrome. The dysfunction may be inherited or acquired and can significantly impact growth and development in children.
