Urea reduction ratio (URR) quantifies the effectiveness of a single dialysis session by measuring the percentage reduction in blood urea nitrogen from pre- to post-dialysis. The calculation is: URR = [(pre-dialysis BUN - post-dialysis BUN) / pre-dialysis BUN] × 100. In pediatric dialysis, target URR should exceed 65%, though higher targets may be appropriate for growing children. URR is used alongside Kt/V measurements to ensure adequate solute clearance and optimal growth and development in pediatric patients requiring renal replacement therapy.
