Continuous Spike-Wave during Sleep (CSWS) is a rare epileptic encephalopathy that typically manifests between ages 4-14 years. The hallmark feature is near-continuous (>85%) spike-wave activity during non-REM sleep, often associated with cognitive and behavioral regression, language impairment, and various seizure types. The condition may occur as an age-related expression of underlying brain lesions or as part of Landau-Kleffner syndrome. Early recognition and treatment are crucial to prevent permanent cognitive impairment.
