Society for Fetal Urology (SFU) grading is a widely accepted classification system used to assess the severity of hydronephrosis detected on prenatal ultrasound examinations. The system grades hydronephrosis from 0 to 4, with Grade 0 representing no dilation, Grade 1 showing slight splitting of the renal pelvis, Grade 2 demonstrating evident splitting with some calyceal dilation, Grade 3 showing wide splitting of the pelvis and calyces, and Grade 4 indicating severe dilation with parenchymal thinning. This grading system helps clinicians determine the need for postnatal follow-up and intervention, providing a standardized framework for communication between maternal-fetal medicine specialists and pediatric urologists.
