Fundal height

Measurement from the pubic symphysis to the top of the uterus, used to assess fetal growth.

Full Definition

Fundal height is a clinical measurement taken during prenatal visits to monitor fetal growth and development. The measurement is taken from the pubic symphysis to the fundus (top) of the uterus, typically using a measuring tape. In normal pregnancies, the fundal height in centimeters roughly corresponds to the gestational age in weeks after 20 weeks. Editors should note this term is always hyphenated when used as an adjective (fundal-height measurement) but not when used as a noun.

Usage

Usage note: Hyphenate when used as compound adjective (fundal-height measurement).
