The ability to regulate and direct movement through the complex interaction of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

Full Definition

Motor control refers to the complex process by which the nervous system coordinates and regulates movement through the integration of sensory information, central processing, and motor output. This involves the interaction between the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, and musculoskeletal system to produce coordinated, purposeful movement. Motor control encompasses feedforward and feedback mechanisms, motor learning, and the ability to adapt movement patterns to changing environmental demands. Impaired motor control is common in neurological conditions and is a primary focus of physical therapy intervention.
