The galea is a tough, fibrous layer of the scalp that lies between the frontalis muscle anteriorly and the occipitalis muscle posteriorly. Galeal flaps can be designed as advancement, rotation, or transposition flaps and are particularly useful for covering defects in the anterior scalp, forehead, and even the upper face.
