Tissue perfusion monitoring refers to various clinical and technological methods used to assess the adequacy of blood flow to tissues, particularly in reconstructed areas, flaps, and replanted parts. Monitoring techniques include clinical assessment (color, temperature, capillary refill, bleeding), Doppler ultrasound, laser Doppler flowmetry, near-infrared spectroscopy, and implantable Doppler probes. Early detection of perfusion problems allows for prompt intervention to salvage compromised tissues. In microsurgery, continuous monitoring is crucial during the immediate post-operative period when vascular thrombosis is most likely to occur. Proper perfusion monitoring can significantly improve flap survival rates and overall surgical outcomes.
