Fetal biometry refers to the systematic ultrasonic measurement of specific fetal anatomical structures to determine gestational age, monitor fetal growth, and detect developmental abnormalities. Standard biometric parameters include biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), and femur length (FL). These measurements are plotted against established growth charts and used to calculate estimated fetal weight (EFW) and percentiles. Biometric assessments are performed at routine intervals throughout pregnancy and are essential for diagnosing intrauterine growth restriction, macrosomia, and other growth disorders. Accuracy depends on proper technique, fetal position, and gestational age.
