Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is a rare benign placental disorder characterized by enlarged, hydropic placental villi with dilated stem villous blood vessels, creating a 'multicystic' appearance on ultrasound. Unlike partial molar pregnancy, PMD typically occurs with a normal fetus, though it may be associated with intrauterine growth restriction and increased risk of fetal demise. The condition can be challenging to diagnose prenatally and is often confused with molar pregnancy. Histopathological examination reveals distinctive mesenchymal hyperplasia without trophoblastic proliferation.
