High-sensitivity C-reactive protein is a highly sensitive assay for measuring low levels of C-reactive protein, an acute-phase reactant produced by the liver in response to inflammation. Elevated hs-CRP levels (>3.0 mg/L) are associated with increased cardiovascular risk and may help refine risk assessment in intermediate-risk patients. Unlike standard CRP tests used for detecting acute inflammation, hs-CRP can detect subtle chronic inflammatory states that contribute to atherosclerosis development.
