This condition represents the most common form of statin-associated muscle symptoms and is often subjective in nature, making diagnosis challenging. Myalgia may be related to statin-induced changes in muscle cell membrane composition, mitochondrial function, or coenzyme Q10 levels. Management strategies include dose reduction, statin switching, intermittent dosing regimens, or alternative lipid-lowering therapies. The condition is distinguished from more severe forms of statin myopathy such as myositis or rhabdomyolysis by the absence of significant muscle enzyme elevation.
