The National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) is a longitudinal, nationally representative survey conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The survey collected detailed information on alcohol and drug use disorders, along with associated psychiatric and medical conditions, from over 43,000 adults across two waves (2001-2002 and 2004-2005). NESARC used the Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities Interview Schedule-DSM-IV Version (AUDADIS-IV) to assess psychiatric disorders. The dataset has been instrumental in understanding the epidemiology of substance use disorders and their comorbidities, contributing to hundreds of publications in psychiatric epidemiology literature.
