Full Definition

Thought broadcasting is a type of delusion of control commonly seen in schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. The individual believes that their thoughts are being transmitted, broadcast, or somehow made known to others without any action on their part. This symptom represents a loss of ego boundaries and is considered a first-rank symptom of schizophrenia according to Kurt Schneider's criteria. Patients may report feeling that others can hear their thoughts or that their thoughts are being transmitted through radio waves or other means.
