Full Definition

Beam's eye view (BEV) is a radiotherapy planning visualization tool that displays patient anatomy and target volumes as they appear from the perspective of the radiation source looking toward the patient. This view allows planners to assess beam arrangement, evaluate field borders, position blocks or multileaf collimator segments, and ensure adequate target coverage while minimizing normal tissue inclusion. BEV is essential for field shaping and is commonly used in both 3D conformal and IMRT planning. The display typically shows target volumes, organs at risk, and field edges projected onto a plane perpendicular to the beam direction.
