Equivalent Uniform Dose

Full Definition

Equivalent Uniform Dose (EUD) is a radiobiological model that reduces complex dose distributions to a single equivalent uniform dose value. This concept accounts for the volume effect in radiation response, where the same mean dose delivered uniformly versus non-uniformly can produce different biological outcomes. EUD calculations incorporate tissue-specific parameters and are used in treatment plan optimization and outcome prediction. The model helps quantify the trade-offs between dose escalation and normal tissue sparing in complex treatment geometries.
