A field junction is the anatomical region where adjacent radiation treatment fields overlap or abut in complex radiation therapy plans involving multiple fields or treatment volumes. Proper management of field junctions is critical to ensure uniform dose coverage while avoiding overdosage (hot spots) or underdosage (cold spots) that could compromise treatment effectiveness or cause complications. Techniques such as feathering (gradual dose transitions), field matching, and junction shifts are employed to optimize dose homogeneity across these boundaries.
