The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) was a National Cancer Institute-sponsored clinical trials cooperative group that conducted multi-institutional studies in radiation oncology from 1971 to 2014. RTOG developed widely used acute and late radiation morbidity scoring criteria that remain standard in clinical practice and research. The organization merged with other groups to form NRG Oncology in 2014, but RTOG toxicity scales and protocols continue to be referenced in current practice. Many landmark radiation oncology studies establishing standard-of-care treatments were conducted under RTOG auspices.
